My WorkAbout

I was born in Durazno, Uruguay. I currently live in Berlin, Germany, where I have my atelier. I have lived among fabrics, wool and threads since I was a child. I learned to knit, sew and embroider alongside my grandparents. From them I inherited my passion for textiles. read more
I'm interested in fabrics that tell stories. I seek to rescue the trace that time leaves on textiles. For example, I use pieces of fabric that belonged to my grandmother, like sheets she embroidered for my mother and I later used as a baby, or pieces of tablecloths that have traces of my own childhood birthdays. Another of my inspirations is the Japanese Boro, where the passage of time is not disguised but reinforced, generating textiles meant to transcend and not to be discarded.
I start from an imaginary landscape or detail that provokes me, first I draw it and then I translate it into the textile in its own terms, experimenting with different techniques and stitches to achieve different textures and effects. Embroidering I rebel against the imposed immediacy, I lose track of time and my state of consciousness is altered. I try to embroider the ungraspable; at times I board with my eyes closed, looking for the perfect imperfection.
